Sandburg volleyball opens Region 4 tourney Wednesday at Kankakee

GALESBURG — The Sandburg volleyball team will open the postseason Wednesday evening on the road.

The Chargers earned the No. 6 seed in the Region 4 Division II District B tournament and will face third-seeded Kankakee in a quarterfinal match at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The semifinal and championship rounds will take place this weekend at Madison. Wednesday's winner will play at 6 p.m. Saturday against No. 2 Sauk Valley or No. 7 Triton. The championship match is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

Sandburg and Kankakee met Sept. 27 this season in Kankakee, with the Cavaliers sweeping the contest 25-13, 25-17, 25-19.

The Chargers earned their way to last season's NJCAA Division II Volleyball Championship after entering the postseason as a No. 4 seed and knocking off the first and second seeds in the last two rounds of the region tournament. It marked Sandburg's fourth trip to nationals in program history (all since 2017).
