Chargers slowed down by Skyhawks in conference showdown
DIXON — The Sandburg volleyball team's attack was stymied Wednesday at 11th-ranked Sauk Valley in a matchup of the top two teams in the Arrowhead Conference.
The nationally ranked Skyhawks swept the Chargers 25-21, 25-19, 25-17 to move into sole possession of first place in the league at 4-0. Sandburg dropped to 6-7 overall and 3-1 in Arrowhead play.
The Chargers were limited to just 19 kills in the match, tied for their second fewest this season. Sandburg's .036 hitting percentage was also its second-lowest mark this year.
Abigail Shaffer, Jalie Eller and Madalynn Knapp each turned in five kills for the Chargers. Quinn Rexroat had 14 assists.
Libero Addison Gillen had a team-best nine digs in the contest, and she served an ace.
