GALESBURG — The Sandburg men's soccer team kept its perfect home record intact with a 4-0 blanking of Kankakee on Thursday afternoon at Kleine Field.
Luis Garcia scored twice for the Chargers (3-1), who remained unbeaten in three home matches this season. Sandburg has outscored its opponents 14-1 in those contests.
Garcia opened the scoring just 27 seconds into the contest as he took a pass from Alberto Fernandez Do Carmo and buried it for a lightning-quick 1-0 lead.
Pablo Albiach doubled the Chargers' lead in the 24th minute as Jaime Martin Caballero found him open in the left side of the box. Albiach rifled a shot inside the far post to make it 2-0.
It remained that way until Sandburg scored twice in the closing minutes. Garcia added his second of the day in the 85th minute off an assist from Luis Egea. It marked Garcia's first multi-goal effort of the season and the fifth of his Chargers career.
Mateo Figueroa capped the scoring in the 88th minute with a goal off a feed from Valentin Kretschmer.
Chargers keeper Gautier Ramont kept a clean sheet while being tested with just two shots on goal in the victory.
