Sandburg Volleyball’s Vyhnanek Voted to All-Region 4 Team
GALESBURG — Carl Sandburg College freshman Grace Vyhnanek has been voted to the All-Region 4 Division II volleyball team by the region's coaches.
Vyhnanek, a product of West Prairie High School, has been one of the leading setters in the country in her first season with the Chargers. Her 1,179 assists this season rank seventh in NJCAA Division II, and she's 33rd nationally with 8.54 assists per set. Those figures are first and second, respectively, among players in Region 4 Division II.
The 5-foot, 9-inch Colchester native has started all 40 matches for Sandburg this season and played in all but one of the Chargers' 139 sets. She's led Sandburg in assists in every match this season. Vyhnanek has five 40-assist outings this year, including a season-high 49 in the Chargers' match against Moraine Valley on Sept. 23.
In addition to her assist totals, Vyhnanek has 160 kills, 27 aces and 231 digs this fall.
Vyhnanek and the Chargers continue their season in the semifinals of the Region 4 Division II District B tournament against Rock Valley at 6 p.m. Saturday in Madison, Wis.
The selection puts Vyhnanek in the same company as her older sister Cora, who earned all-region honors in 2018 and 2019 during her two seasons as the Chargers' setter.
