Win at Illinois Valley puts Chargers on brink of conference 3-peat
OGLESBY — The Sandburg women's basketball team put itself on the cusp of an Arrowhead Conference three-peat with an 82-70 win at Illinois Valley on Tuesday night.
The Chargers' third straight victory, coupled with Sauk Valley's loss Tuesday to Highland, gave Sandburg a one-game lead over the Skyhawks in the conference standings with two games to play. The Chargers' magic number to win the Arrowhead championship is one. Sandburg can claim the conference title outright with a win at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at home against Sauk Valley.
Camryn Atterberg's double-double with 12 points and 16 rebounds helped the Chargers push past Illinois Valley on Tuesday. Atterberg's rebounding total tied her season high, and she had six boards on the offensive end.
The freshman from Keokuk, Iowa, also had six blocks in the victory. Atterberg's double-double was her fifth of the season and fourth in the last seven games.
The Chargers also got double-digit scoring nights from Antonia Kisler, who posted a team-high 16. Kisler was 6 of 14 from the field, hit 3 of 6 3-pointers and had seven rebounds.
Sophomore Tiera Hall tallied 15 points and also went 3 of 6 from downtown. Hall had a team-leading six assists in the win and tied Tyriunna Steele for the team-high honors with three steals.
Freshman Hailey Redding was 3 of 5 on 3s and ended the night with 11 points.
The Chargers led 22-16 after the opening period and had a 41-32 advantage at halftime.
IVCC's Ashlyn Ehm led all players with 29 points and collected 11 rebounds.
