Chargers’ 3-game streak tripped up by Trojans
GALESBURG — Anna Landis came off the bench to lead the Sandburg women's basketball team in scoring, but the Chargers were topped 79-58 by Triton on Saturday afternoon.
The teams were tied at 17 after the opening quarter, but the visiting Trojans outscored Sandburg 22-12 in the second period and never trailed again. The loss snapped a three-game win streak for the Chargers.
Landis hit a pair of 3-pointers and finished with 10 points to be the only Sandburg player in double figures. The freshman from Switzerland was 4 of 9 overall from the field and tied for the team lead with three assists. It marked Landis' third double-digit outing this season and second in the last three games.
Sophomore guard Tyriunna Steele scored nine points, all on the strength of a 3-for-5 showing from long distance.
Antonia Kisler, Camryn Atterberg and Hailey Redding each scored eight for the Chargers. Atterber also had team highs of nine rebounds and four blocks.
Triton's Jayla Rankin led all players with 22 points. Jazzmine Smith added 18 for the Trojans.
