Chargers stay hot with conference-opening win Kishwaukee

MALTA — The Sandburg women's basketball team opened its Arrowhead Conference schedule with a 79-62 win at Kishwaukee on Thursday as Antonia Kisler and Camryn Atterberg each delivered double-doubles for the Chargers.

The victory was the fifth in the last six games for the two-time defending conference champion Chargers (11-6, 1-0), who outscored the host Kougars 26-15 in the second quarter to take a 42-30 lead into halftime.

Atterberg's totals of 11 points and 13 rebounds tied for her most this season in each category. The freshman from Keokuk, Iowa, finished 4 of 10 from the floor and had 10 of her rebounds on the offensive glass. Atterberg also collected a season-best six blocks, doubling her previous high mark.

Kisler had a game-leading 18 points and added a dozen rebounds in the victory. She also led the Chargers with six assists and four steals. The sophomore from Galesburg hit 2 of 4 3-point tries and knocked down 8 of 10 foul shots.

Sandburg had two other players who nearly had double-doubles. Freshman Hailey Redding scored 13 and finished with nine rebounds, and Tiera Hall had eight points and nine boards.
