Chargers shell Spoon River for 4th win in last 5 games
GALESBURG — The Sandburg women's basketball team took a 20-point halftime lead and held on to beat Spoon River 74-66 on Wednesday night.
The Chargers (6-4) won for the fourth time in their last five games after opening up a 20-9 lead after the first quarter. Sandburg then outscored Spoon River 25-16 in the second for a 45-25 advantage at the break.
Hailey Redding and Antonia Kisler each finished in double figures for Sandburg, which swept the season series against the Snappers. Redding scored 17 points on 7-for-20 shooting and had five rebounds.
Kisler tallied 14 points while going 5 of 16 from the field. She also led Sandburg with nine rebounds and four steals in addition to posting three assists and two blocks.
Freshman Camryn Atterberg had nine points, seven rebounds and three blocks for the Chargers in the win. Sophomore Tyriunna Steele scored eight points off the bench and connected on both of her 3-point tries.
Amadea Montijo scored a game-high 26 for the Golden Eagles, who had six players reach double figures.
