Snell reaches 5 times in Chargers’ 1-run loss to Cougars
EAST PEORIA — Damien Snell reached safely five times, but the Sandburg baseball team came up short in a slugfest at Illinois Central on Wednesday night, losing 12-11 in a nine-inning contest.

Chargers highlights
• The Chargers raced to a 4-0 first-inning lead behind a Carter Ramsey RBI double, RBI singles from Chuck Hathaway and Snell and a run-scoring groundout by Burke Miller.
• Sandburg added another four-spot in the third as Miller doubled in a pair of runs and Kody Knecht singled in two more.
• Trailing 12-8 in the sixth, Hathaway picked up his second RBI single of the game.
• Still down 12-9 in the seventh, the Chargers loaded the bases with one out. Jameson Dickerson forced in a run with a walk. Knecht then scored on a wild pitch that brought Sandburg within a run and put the tying and go-ahead runs in scoring position. Ramsey, however, struck out and Hathaway popped out to end the threat.
Sandburg standout
Snell got on board in all five of his plate appearances, going 3 for 3 with a pair of walks, two runs scored and an RBI. The second baseman collected a hit in the first, walked in the third, drew another walk in the fifth and had base hits in the seventh and eighth. It was his fourth game this season with at least three hits and third game reaching base five times.
