Chargers come up short in late innings against Braves

GALESBURG — Black Hawk scored six unanswered runs in the final three innings to pull away from the Sandburg baseball team Tuesday, handing the Chargers a 9-3 loss in a nine-inning Arrowhead Conference matchup.

Chargers highlights
• A pair of singles and a sacrifice bunt put runners at second and third with one away in the second for the Chargers. Kodyn Knecht's grounder to third was misplayed, allowing Landon Binder to score the game's first run.
• Down 3-1 in the sixth with Colton Allen standing on second, the Braves committed an error on Jameson Dickerson's groundball to second, allowing Allen to score. Carter Ramsey followed with a single before Knecht's base hit to right brought home Dickerson with the tying run.

Sandburg standout
Chargers starter Chuck Hathaway was saddled with the loss despite a strong outing that saw him pitch into the seventh. Hathaway allowed three earned runs on eight hits over 6.2 innings. He struck out one and walked three.
