Chargers swept by Falcons despite Allen’s slam, 5 RBIs in Game 1

 

MARION — Colton Allen drove in five runs in Game 1, but the Sandburg baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader Sunday afternoon against Southeastern Illinois.

Key moments 
• Leading 2-1 in the top of the second, two singles and a walk to open the inning loaded the bases for the Chargers. Allen came to the plate with two away and smacked a grand slam to right field for a 6-1 lead. 
• Allen added a two-out RBI single in the fifth for a 9-3 Sandburg lead, but the Falcons scored 11 unanswered runs the rest of the way, plating two in the fourth, five in the fifth and four in the sixth.  

Sandburg standout 
Allen finished a triple shy of the cycle, going 3 for 4 with two runs scored and five driven in.

Key moment 
With Southeastern Illinois up 2-0 in the fifth, the Falcons had their first three batters reach and scored four times to extend their lead.  

Sandburg standout 
Starter Ethan Krei was solid over 4 innings of work for the Chargers. He allowed three earned runs on three hits and four walks while striking out a pair.
