Chargers drop 2 at No. 10 Blackhawks to close regular season

BURLINGTON, Iowa — The Sandburg baseball team finished one game and played another as the Chargers wrapped up their regular season Monday night at 10th-ranked Southeastern.

The teams completed their April 11 game that had been suspended in the bottom of the fifth inning, then followed that with a seven-inning contest.

KEY MOMENT
Buoyed by a seven-run second inning, the Chargers led 8-7 when the contest was suspended, but the Blackhawks outscored Sandburg 10-1 when play resumed Monday.

SANDBURG STANDOUT
First baseman Frank Kelch pounded a fourth-inning home run prior to the pause. He finished 2 for 5 with two runs scored and two driven in.

KEY MOMENT
The Chargers scored in four of seven innings — including Austin Wiegand's RBI single in the first for a 1-0 lead — but were held to single tallies each time. Southeastern went ahead with a three-run second and saw its lead bulge to 5-2 with a pair of runs in the third.

SANDBURG STANDOUT
Leadoff man Payton Hankins drew three walks in the contest and scored a first-inning run.
