Wiegand stays hot with 4th HR in 4 games, but Chargers fall twice at Cobras

GALESBURG — Austin Wiegand homered for the fourth time in four games, but the Carl Sandburg College baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader at Parkland on Monday.

KEY MOMENT
Down 5-2 in the sixth, the Chargers pounced for five run to take the lead. Payton Hankins singled in a run, and Wiegand's RBI fielder's choice knotted the score. With runners at second and third, Anthony Nino delivered a two-out double to put Sandburg up 7-5, but the Cobras, receiving votes in the Division II rankings, answered with their own five-run rally in the bottom of the sixth. 

SANDBURG STANDOUT
Hankins reached base three times, going 1 for 2 with a pair of walks, a runs scored and two RBIs.

KEY MOMENT
The Cobras' six-run third inning helped them open up a 9-1 lead.

SANDBURG STANDOUT
Wiegand doubled twice in three at-bats and scored a run. His homer in Game 1 was his fourth since Friday and gave him a team-leading eight on the season.
