Chargers eclipsed by Cavaliers in road matchup

GALESBURG — Kankakee put up a pair of big innings to run away from the Carl Sandburg College baseball team 18-3 in seven innings on Monday afternoon.

KEY MOMENTS
• Down by a pair of runs in the fourth, the Chargers tied it at 3-3 thanks to a couple of errors by the Cavaliers, who are among those receiving votes in the NJCAA Division II rankings. Standing on second, Jade Coleman stole third and came home on an error by the Kankakee shortstop. Noah Wolf drew a two-out walk, stole second, moved to third on a throwing error and scored on Payton Hankins' hit to right field.
• After Sandburg evened the scored the Cavaliers exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the fourth and seven more in the fifth.

SANDBURG STANDOUT
Chase Mason reached base twice for the Chargers, going 2 for 4. The sophomore catcher collected an infield single in the first and had a base hit to center in the seventh.
