Ball, Shields Each Drive 4 in Chargers’ Win Over Illinois Central

GALESBURG — Mitch Ball and Jack Shields each had three hits and drove in four runs, and Logan Van Heuklon highlighted a four-hit game with three doubles in the Carl Sandburg College baseball team's 15-8 victory over Illinois Central on Wednesday at the Hungate Baseball/Softball Complex.

KEY MOMENTS
• The Chargers scored five times in both the second and third innings to race to an early nine-run lead. Frank Kelch and Ball had RBI doubles in the second, and Shields capped the first five-run frame with a two-run single to center.
• All of Sandburg's runs in the third came across with two out. Ball and Shields each knocked in two with singles, and Logan Van Heuklon had an RBI double to make it 11-2.

SANDBURG STANDOUT
Ball reached base four times in five plate appearances out of the leadoff spot. The sophomore center fielder went 3 for 5, walked, double twice, scored twice, had four RBIs and nabbed two of the Chargers' seven stolen bases in the contest.
