Shields Swats 2 HRs as Chargers Split Home Opener vs. South Suburban

GALESBURG — Jack Shields (Peoria Heights, Ill./Notre Dame) hit two of the Carl Sandburg College baseball team's four home runs in Game 2 to help the Chargers to a doubleheader split with South Suburban in their home opener on a beautiful Sunday afternoon at the Hungate Baseball/Softball Complex.

• The Chargers tied the game at 4 in the fifth behind a two-run single by Caileb Johnson (Brimfield, Ill./Brimfield) that made it 4-3, and Trenton Blythe (LaHarpe, Ill./Notre Dame) hit a grounder to short that was misplayed and brought home Mitch Ball (East Peoria, Ill./East Peoria) with the tying run.
• The Bulldogs erupted for seven runs as the game went to extra innings as they sent 13 batters to the dish.
