Peterson delivers top-10 finish for Chargers at Heartland Invitational
NORMAL — Andrew Peterson set a personal record while leading the Sandburg cross country teams at the Heartland Invitational on Thursday at Maxwell Park.
Peterson turned in a 10th-place time of 28:02.4 in the men's 8-kilometer run for the best finish of the day by a Charger. Finn Martin also turned in a PR for the men's team, placing 42nd in 32:25.4.
Linda Koech's 23:24.2 mark paced the Chargers in the 5K women's run. Faith Rotich (25:55.7) was 43rd and Sheila Cheruiyot (26:25.2) finished 44th. Grace Maiyo had a PR of 27:01.0 while finishing 47th.
Parkland's Aleigha Garrison was the women's champion with a time of 18:41.7, and Lake Land was the women's team winner. The Chargers placed seventh.
Kaleb Kilgore of Heartland won the men's race in 26:44.5 as the host Hawks had the top three finishers. Heartland easily won the men's championship with 16 points. Sandburg's men took fifth.
