Peterson, Rotich lead Chargers at Prairie Stars Invitational
SPRINGFIELD — Faith Rotich and Andrew Peterson delivered the top times for the Sandburg cross country teams at the Prairie Stars Invitational on Friday.
Peterson finished 53rd in the men's 7-kilometer run with a time of 24:09.17 against a field largely made of NCAA Division II and III programs.
The Chargers' other men's scorers finished in a pack from 102nd to 114th. It comprised of Finnegan Martin (102nd, 28:12.24), Mathew Kotut (110th, 30:31.36), Dylan Moore (113th, 31:45.28) and Mathias Kiprotich (114th, 32:25.67).
Sandburg's men finished 10th with 298 points. Host Illinois-Springfield won with 25 points, well ahead of runner-up Millikin, which had 61 points. William Kaempfe of Missouri-St. Louis was the men's individual winner in 21:45.38.
Rotich placed 73rd in the women's 5K with a run of 24:48.31. The Chargers' other scores came from Sheila Cheruiyot (76th, 25:54.05), Grace Maiyo (82nd, 27:39.51), Marrion Kemboi (84th, 28:33.70) and Abigael Maiyo (85th, 29:50.33).
Sandburg had 289 points and placed ninth in the women's standings. The host Prairie Stars scored 19 to beat out second-place Truman State's 36. UIS had the top four women's finishers, led by Maddie Miller-Ross in 18:01.07.
