5 Chargers Hit Double Figures in Rout of South Suburban

GALESBURG — All 11 Carl Sandburg College women's basketball players scored and five reached double figures in the Chargers' 93-46 rout of South Suburban on Thursday at John Lewis Gym.

KEY MOMENT
Sandburg led wire to wire and used a big stretch to close the first quarter to pull away from the Bulldogs. Up 15-14, the Chargers (18-8) ended the first quarter by scoring 18 of the last 20 points for a 33-16 lead. Elly Bentley started the run with back-to-back buckets, and Gracie Sims contributed a three-point play.

 
SANDBURG STANDOUT
Sim totaled 13 points and seven rebounds as she reached double figures for the first time in 2024. The sophomore guard, typically a defensive stalwart, was 5 of 11 from the field, knocked down 2 of her 4 3-point tries and had three assists. The outing was her first double-digit game since Dec. 21 at McHenry County.

Brook Pieper: 9 points, 16 rebounds
Elliot Lewis: 4 points, 9 rebounds

FOR THE BULLDOGS
• Anyah Carpenter: 20 points, 9 rebounds
• Janiyah Watkins: 15 points

UP NEXT FOR SANDBURG
5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Kishwaukee. Chargers would clinch at least share of Arrowhead Conference title with a victory.
