Ferguson’s Season-High 18 Off Bench Fuels Chargers’ Win Over DuPage
GALESBURG — The Carl Sandburg College women's basketball team had five players reach double figures as the Chargers ran away from DuPage in an 87-50 victory Saturday afternoon at John Lewis Gym.
KEY MOMENTS
• Down 19-17 in the second quarter, the Chargers took the lead for good by scoring 16 of the next 19 points. Freshman Capre Ferguson opened the run with a 3-pointer as she scored seven straight points for Sandburg (10-3). The burst helped Sandburg take a 35-28 lead into the locker room.
• After the Chaparrals opened the second half with a bucket, Sandburg held DuPage to just five more points in the third quarter as the Chargers opened up a 60-35 lead. Kelci Shelton fed Brook Pieper for a reverse layup and the first of three straight buckets by the freshman forward to begin an 8-0 Sandburg run.
SANDBURG STANDOUT
Ferguson finished with 18 points on 5-of-7 shooting as she netted a new season high in scoring. Her previous best was 14 points Nov. 14 against Spoon River. The first-year player from Galesburg was 7 of 8 from the free throw line, pulled down five rebounds and added two steals.
