Chargers Split at IVCC to Close Out Conference Schedule

GALESBURG — The Carl Sandburg College softball team closed its Arrowhead Conference schedule by splitting a doubleheader at Illinois Valley on Thursday afternoon.

The Chargers (14-22, 8-12) dropped Game 1 before taking the nightcap behind big performances by Emma Wolfe (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap) and Riley Creasey (Macomb, Ill./Macomb).

Key Moment
After grabbing a 3-2 lead in the second inning, the Eagles pushed across three more in the third with two out behind an RBI triple, RBI single and RBI double.

Sandburg Standout
Gabby Blanchard (South Pekin, Ill./Pekin) tallied three singles in three at-bats, scoring a run and driving one in as well.

Key Moment
Trailing 3-2, the Chargers erupted for an eight-run fifth to take the lead for good. Wolfe led off the inning with a home run to center and capped the scoring in the inning with a two-run triple that made it 10-3. In between those two hits, Blanchard singled in the go-ahead run, and the Chargers followed with consecutive RBI base hits from Maddi Benson (Spring Bay, Ill./Metamora), Chelsey Catton (Pekin, Ill./Pekin), Brooklyn Walker (Burnside, Ill./Warsaw) and Gracie Rademacker (Green Valley, Ill./Midwest Central).

Sandburg Standout
Wolfe finished 3 for 4 with two triples, a homer, two runs scored and three RBIs. Wolfe wrapped up the Chargers' conference slate with a .463 average, .482 on-base percentage and .938 slugging percentage with six homers, 26 RBIs and 33 runs in 20 Arrowhead games.
