Chargers Come Alive for 4 Goals in 2nd Half of Win Against Daley

GALESBURG — Matthew Roach and Saul Etienne each had a goal and an assist in the Carl Sandburg College men's soccer team's 4-1 Region 4 victory Wednesday afternoon against Daley.

The Chargers (8-3-2 overall, 5-2-1 Region 4) struck for four second-half goals after the teams played to a scoreless opening 45 minutes at Knox College's Jorge Prats Field.

Roach opened the scoring in the 46th minute as Etienne made a pass to him on a counterattack. Roach's shot beat the keeper to the top right corner for a 1-0 Sandburg lead.

Roach's assist padded Sandburg's lead at 2-0 in the 50th minute as his cross from the left side found Mario Segura Munoz, who buried it into the right side of the goal.

Daley got on the board in the 81st minute before pair of late scores by the Chargers put the game away. Etienne was taken down in the box in the 87th minute, and Matteo Rissato Prado calmly converted the penalty with a low shot into the right side of the net to make it 3-1. Etienne put the finishing touches on the victory with a header in the 88th minute off an assist from Murillo Campos Costa.

The Chargers finished with 16 shots in the match and put five on frame.

Sandburg keeper Lucas Maranhao made six saves on seven Daley shots on goal. Maranhao improved to 4-0 in his four starts in net for the Chargers this season.
