CHICAGO HEIGHTS — The Carl Sandburg College men's soccer team went toe to toe with defending national champion Prairie State, but a late goal by the 11th-ranked Pioneers dealt the Chargers a 1-0 Region 4 road loss on Thursday afternoon.
The teams were engaged in a defensive struggle when Prairie State finally broke through in the 85th minute as Leo Dutra put one in off an assist from Nick Flores for the only goal of the match.
The Chargers (6-3-2) were turned aside on all three of their shots on goal — one each by Murillo Campos Costa, Matteo Rissato Prado and Felipe Endo Dos Santos.
Sandburg keeper Tian Poyo Capilla stopped six of Prairie State's seven shots on frame.
