Chargers Beat Fighting Scots 3-0, Extend Shutout Streak to 3 Games

GALESBURG — The Carl Sandburg College men's soccer team kept its season-opening shutout streak intact with a 3-0 victory over Monmouth JV on Thursday afternoon at Kleine Field.

The Chargers (2-0-1) won their second straight contest against a foe from the Midwest Conference and have yet to concede through three matches this season.

Sandburg opened the scoring in the 15th minute as Rodrigo De la Fuente was taken down in the box and calmly converted the penalty with a shot inside the left post.

Sandburg took a 2-0 lead into halftime after scoring again in the 33rd minute. Deep in the right corner, Lorenzo Schons sent a ball into the box that was flicked in beautifully by Jean Pierre Cabezas Ortiz.

The Chargers polished off the victory in the 77th minute as Felipe Augusto Da Silva took a free kick from about 25 yards that got under the bar and over the outstretched arm of the Fighting Scots keeper.

Sandburg converted all three of its shots on goal, and the Chargers had 11 total attempts.

Chargers keeper Lucas Maranhao stopped all four shots on goal in the victory. In total this season, Maranhao and fellow keepers Jack Oliver and Tian Poyo Capillo have turned aside all 12 shots on goal over 270 minutes.
