Picken medalist with 2-over 74 at Region 4 Preview

BYRON — Sophomore Tyler Picken took home medalist honors for the Carl Sandburg College men's golf team at the Region 4 Preview on Monday afternoon at PrairieView.

Picken carded a 2-over-par 74 to claim a one-shot victory over Black Hawk's Mason Steinert. Picken posted birdies on the par-4 fifth, par-4, ninth, par-5 11th and par-5 15th. He shot an even-par 36 on the back nine.

The showing was Picken's third top-three finish this season, and he has six top-10s in 10 starts as a sophomore 

Logan Beers, coming off a fourth-place showing at the Knox Invite over the weekend, shot an 83 for Sandburg. David Hise (87) and Kyle Shaw (91) accounted for the Chargers' other scores.

Sandburg totaled a 335 to finish 10th in the team standings. Black Hawk won the event with a 307 total.
