Hopping, Theleritis Each Shoot 74, Tie for 4th at Kishwaukee
ROCHELLE — Cole Hopping (Vermont, Ill./VIT) and Cooper Theleritis (Pekin, Ill./Pekin) each tied for fourth place with a 2-over-par 74 for the Carl Sandburg College men's golf team in an Arrowhead Conference meet hosted by Kishwaukee on Friday at Fairways.
The Chargers' team score of 307 was their best of the spring season, and they finished third behind Black Hawk (297) and Illinois Valley (304). Sandburg edged fourth-place Highland by a stroke, and Sauk Valley was fifth at 342.
Hopping shot even par on the front nine, including a birdie on the third hole. His only blemishes on the back were bogeys on Nos. 17 and 18. Theleritis shot 1 over on each side, recording birdies on the par-4 fifth and par-5 17th.
Clayton Phillips (New London, Iowa/New London), coming off a victory in the Chargers' last meet, was 6 over par for the day, and Lorin Peterson (Williamsfield, Ill./Williamsfield) added an 81 for Sandburg.
Illinois Valley's Ian Roach was medalist with a round of 4-under 68 that included an eagle on the par-4 10th.
