Sandburg men make it 10 in a row with Sophomore Night win over Black Hawk

GALESBURG — It's a perfect 10 for the Sandburg men's basketball team.
The Chargers won their 10th straight game Tuesday night as they defeated Arrowhead Conference rival Black Hawk 77-63 on Sophomore Night.
Sandburg also closed its regular-season home schedule with a 12-2 record, and the Chargers have gone 23-3 on their home floor over the last two seasons.
Sandburg (21-8, 4-2) led 34-26 at halftime against the Braves and held a 41-34 edge before a Matt Bockman 3-pointer ignited a game-turning run. Bockman's trey with 16:15 to play pushed the Chargers' lead to 10 and kicked off a 14-1 stretch that lifted Sandburg's advantage to 55-35 with 12:57 to go.
Black Hawk answered with three straight buckets, but the Chargers responded by scoring eight in a row to go up 63-41. Sophomore Ralph Wires capped the run with a spinning layup with 8:15 to play.
Bockman led five Sandburg players in double figures. The sophomore from Decorah, Iowa, tied his career high with 16 points, including a pair of 3s and makes on both of his free-throw attempts.
Keauntrey Barnes and Rylan Carton each scored 14 in the win. Carton had 12 of his points in the second half, including two triples.
Sophomore Larry Olivier Jr. connected on three 3s as he tied his season high with 11 points. The Rock Island High School product also posted 11 in the Chargers' season opener against Culver-Stockton JV.
Freshman Ashton Grives finished with 10 points, all in the first half.
The contest marked the final regular-season home game for sophomores Olivier, Wires, Bockman, Barnes, Camron Williams and Tanner Sedam.
