Chargers grow streak to 9 games, clinch 20-win season with victory over Fighting Bees

GALESBURG — A big run to close out the first half sent the Sandburg men's basketball team to its ninth straight victory Thursday as the Chargers beat St. Ambrose JV 68-45.

The win also gave Sandburg its 20th victory of the season as the Chargers improved to 20-8. It's Sandburg's fourth 20-win campaign in the last eight full seasons.

Up 16-12 in the first half, the Chargers scored 17 of the last 19 points in the final 8:10 of the period. Sandburg's seven field goals in that stretch came from six different players, including 3-pointers from Lewis Siegfried, Matt Bockman and Larry Olivier Jr. The burst helped the Chargers take a 33-14 edge into the locker room.

Sandburg finished with 11 3s on the night but only had one player reach double figures. That was Keauntrey Barnes, who finished with three treys, 15 points and this alley-oop from Ralph Wires.

Eleven of the 12 Chargers who saw action finished with at least one field goal. Olivier Jr., Wires and Camron Williams each scored eight for Sandburg in the victory. Rylan Carton chipped in seven points.
