Sandburg wins 8th straight as Barnes hits 6 treys in 1st half of blowout at Illinois Valley
OGLESBY — Keauntrey Barnes' scorching first half helped the Sandburg men's basketball team extend its winning streak to eight games as the Chargers routed Illinois Valley 90-60 on the road Tuesday night.
Barnes hit six 3-pointers (all in the first half) and scored 20 of his team-leading 24 points in the opening period. The six 3s were the most in a game this season for the sophomore from Farmington. Tuesday also marked his second game in a row with at least 20 points and his fifth 20-point game overall this season.
Barnes' hot start helped Sandburg (19-8 overall, 3-2 Arrowhead Conference) take a 40-22 lead into halftime as the Chargers finished a season sweep of the Eagles.
Ralph Wires finished with 12 points in the win for Sandburg. Matt Bockman, Lewis Siegfried and Rylan Carton each added nine points. Bockman and Siegfried each hit three 3s to account for their totals.
The Chargers hit 15 shots from beyond the arc, one shy of their season high Nov. 20 at St. Ambrose JV.
