Sandburg men fall to Braves despite strong nights from Barnes, Carton

MOLINE — Keauntrey Barnes and Rylan Carton turned in big scoring nights, but the Sandburg men's basketball team fell 85-74 at Black Hawk on Thursday night.

Barnes led the Chargers with 25 points, while Carton tied his season high with 23 in the loss to the Braves. Sandburg dropped to 11-8 overall and 1-2 in the Arrowhead Conference.

The Chargers jumped to a 43-37 lead at halftime but saw the hosts outscore them by 17 in the second half.

Barnes and Carton were key in Sandburg's hot start as Barnes scored 15 first-half points and Carton tallied 13.

Barnes finished with four 3s on the evening and notched his third 20-point game as a Charger. He came three points shy of matching his season best of 28 on Dec. 19 against DuPage.

Carton, playing just up the road from his high school alma mater of Sherrard, also hit four 3s in the contest. He tied his season high of 23 points from Jan. 8 at Kishwaukee.

Sophomore Matt Bockman also hit double figures for Sandburg in Thursday's contest, scoring 12 points.
