Carton records season-high 23 points in Chargers’ loss at Kougars
MALTA — Rylan Carton set a season high with 23 points, but the Sandburg men's basketball team dropped a 65-60 decision at Kishwaukee on Thursday in the Chargers' first Arrowhead Conference contest.
The loss snapped a three-game streak for the Chargers, who couldn't close out the Kougars after taking a 30-28 lead into halftime.
Carton was 6 of 11 from the field and connected on 10 of 11 foul shots in the contest. The freshman from Sherrard also had six rebounds and two assists. While Carton has scored in double figures in all but two games for Sandburg this season, Thursday marked his first 20-point outing. His previous high was 19 points on Nov. 8 against Oakton.
Sophomore Matt Bockman tied his season high with 15 points in the contest. Bockman hit a pair of 3-pointers and was 5 for 7 at the line. The Decorah, Iowa, product also had six rebounds and three assists.
Keauntrey Barnes finished with eight points and eight rebounds for Sandburg. Gavin Grothaus led the Chargers on the glass with nine rebounds (five offensive).
Kishwaukee's Ramsey Bethel turned in a triple-double with 27 points, 18 rebounds and 10 steals.
