Trio of Chargers hit double digits in win over Spoon River

GALESBURG — Three Chargers reached double figures as the Sandburg men's basketball team defeated Spoon River 65-57 on Wednesday night.

Chargers freshman Rylan Carton led all players with 18 points in the victory. Carton scored nine points in each half and hit a 3-pointer in each period. He was 4 of 6 from the foul line.

Gavin Grothaus scored 13 for Sandburg, with 10 of those points coming after halftime. It marked the first game in double figures for Grothaus since scoring 10 at St. Ambrose JV on Nov. 20.

Sophomore Matt Bockman tallied a season-best 11 points in the victory. He hit a trey and was 6 for 8 at the line. It was Bockman's first double-digit scoring night since he had 11 in last season's regular season finale against Olive-Harvey.

Sandburg took a 32-24 lead into halftime and never trailed in the second half as the Chargers avenged a 74-61 loss at Spoon River last month.

SATURDAY'S GAME POSTPONED
The Chargers' contest scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday vs. Elgin has been postponed to 3 p.m. Jan. 31. Sandburg's next scheduled game is 3 p.m. Tuesday at McHenry County
