Barnes leads Chargers with 15 points, 7 boards in loss to WolfPack

GALESBURG — Keauntrey Barnes led the Sandburg men's basketball team in scoring and rebounding, but the Chargers were stopped by Madison 82-69 on Saturday afternoon.

KEY MOMENTS
• The visiting WolfPack raced to an early 23-7 lead before the Chargers (3-2) strung together 22 straight points to go ahead. Ralph Wires kicked off the run with a layup, and Barnes' second consecutive putback gave Sandburg a 24-23 lead with 3:10 left in the opening half. Two Rylan Carton free throws capped the Chargers' run, making it 29-23. Matt Bockman closed the first half with a 60-foot shot at the buzzer for a 33-28 Sandburg advantage.
• Barnes split a pair of foul shots for a 38-32 Chargers lead with 17:31 to play before the WolfPack flipped the contest. Madison scored the next 15 points to take the lead and never trailed again. Sandburg's closest deficit after the run came at 56-51 with 7:52 to go, but the WolfPack rattled off nine straight to push their lead to 14.

SANDBURG STANDOUT
Barnes finished with 15 points while going 4 of 12 from the field and 6 of 8 at the free-throw line. The sophomore also had a team-best seven rebounds (four offensive) and three blocks in the loss.
