Chargers Push Win Streak to 5 as Babers Scores Season-High 24
GALESBURG — Sophomore guard Jeremiah Babers turned in his best outing of the season, helping the Carl Sandburg College men's basketball team beat Monmouth JV 89-73 on Monday night at John Lewis Gym for the Chargers' fifth victory in a row.
Babers led the Chargers with a season-high 24 points while going 8 of 13 from the field. The point guard from Galesburg also drained all eight of his free-throw attempts and had eight assists against just two turnovers. It marked Babers' second straight game scoring in double figures.
Nursing a 64-58 lead with 7:30 to play, Babers found Koen Derry for a three-point play that sparked a 9-2 Chargers run. Babers capped the stretch with an assist to Easten Schisler for a layup at 5:19 that pushed Sandburg's lead to 73-60.
Jack DuBois, coming off a 31-point outing Saturday at Madison, had 13 points for Sandburg on 5-of-9 shooting. Derry also scored 13 and grabbed a team-best six rebounds for the Chargers, who shot 55 percent (30 of 55) for the game.
