DIXON — Connor Barnett and Hunter Caves reached double figures in each contest, but the Carl Sandburg College men's basketball team dropped a pair of games over the weekend at the Sauk Valley Classic.
The Chargers fell 88-72 Friday night against Marshalltown and were dealt an 83-75 defeat by Prairie State on Saturday.
MARSHALLTOWN 88, SANDBURG 72
The teams went into halftime tied at 37, but the Tigers outscored the Chargers 51-35 in the second half. Sandburg trailed by six with 3:44 to play before Marshalltown pushed its lead to double digits in the final minutes.
Barnett, Roee Dinnar and Hunter Caves each scored 13 points for the Chargers, who were 24 of 52 from the floor. Nate Hill came off the bench to hand out a team-high six assists and score six points for Sandburg.
Marshalltown was led by a game-high 28 points from Zion Obanla and 25 from Zidane Moore.
PRAIRIE STATE 83, SANDBURG 75
The Chargers (0-3) went into the locker room with a 42-34 advantage but couldn't hang on despite shooting 58 percent overall (26 of 45) and from the 3-point line (11 of 19).
Barnett had a team-leading 16 points on 5-for-7 shooting. He knocked down both of his 3-point attempts, went 4 for 4 from the line and had four assists.
Caves also went 5 of 7 from the field for 12 points. Tyrese Grose had 10 points, and Hill was strong off the bench once again, scoring 10 and collecting a team-best six assists.
