Chargers Fall Short vs. Bees in Season Opener After Late Run

GALESBURG — St. Ambrose JV made a late go-ahead run to spoil the Carl Sandburg College men's basketball team's season opener Tuesday at John Lewis Gymnasium, handing the Chargers an 82-78 loss.

KEY MOMENTS
• The Fighting Bees took a 33-29 lead into halftime, but the Chargers took went ahead 38-37 on a leaner by freshman David Hise with 16:45 to go.
• Sandburg led by as many as 10 points on two occasions in the second half, the last coming on a coast-to-coast layup by Roee Dinnar with 12:00 to play.
• The Chargers led 71-67 following a pair of Griffin Ronnebeck free throws at 3:58, but the Bees answered with an 11-0 run in the next 1:56 to take the lead for good. The stretch included three 3-pointers for St. Ambrose JV.

SANDBURG STANDOUT
Hise came off the bench and scored a team-best 11 points on 5-of-9 shooting. The Knoxville native also tied for the team lead with eight rebounds (four offensive) and led all Chargers with five assists.
