Etienne’s Goal, Assist Helps No. 14 Sandburg to Victory at Kishwaukee

MALTA — The 14th-ranked Carl Sandburg College men's soccer team took a pair of two-goal leads in the first half and held on to beat Kishwaukee 3-2 on Saturday in a Region IV matchup.

The Chargers (3-2, 2-1) opened with a pair of goals in the opening 20 minutes. Jean Forestal converted a penalty to give Sandburg a 1-0 lead as he kept alive his streak of scoring a goal in each of the Chargers' contests this season. Forestal now has 10 goals on the year, good for third in NJCAA Division II.

Saul Etienne put Sandburg ahead 2-0 in the 20th minute when he scored off a feed from Brais Sotelo Gonzalez, but the Kougars answered less than a minute later to cut their deficit in half.

Etienne found Neemias Moreira in the 23rd minute as the Chargers regained their two-goal lead at 3-1. Sandburg was able to close out the match, holding Kishwaukee scoreless in the final 60 minutes after Josue Orozco scored in the 30th minute to make it a 3-2 game.

The Chargers totaled 11 shots (eight on goal), with Moreira tallying a team-high four attempts.

Benjamin Hilton stopped all six shots he saw in 60 minutes in net for Sandburg, while Marco Aona Jr. made three saves in 30 minutes of action.
